Microsoft might give away Windows 10 free to insiders

Windows insiders might get the chance to upgrade to the upcoming Windows 10 RTM version without paying a single cent, no matter if they have a valid license of Windows 7/8.1 or not.

That’s what WZor, one of the best known Windows leakers across the world, says in a tweet today, hinting that Microsoft has recently decided to make it possible for Windows insiders to upgrade to Windows 10 RTM without the need for a license.

Obviously, that would really be a big change for Microsoft, which would give the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 10 to more users than previously expected, but there’s no doubt that Redmond needs to think this through because there could be plenty of users who would deploy the preview just to get to RTM free of charge.

Windows 10 will be offered at absolutely no cost to users running licensed Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 on their computers, but this promo will only last for one year after launch.

As usual, keep in mind that these are all rumors, so it’s not yet confirmed whether or not Microsoft indeed wants to offer Windows 10 free of charge to insiders, but if it does, it’ll be interesting to see how many users actually deploy the new operating system by going through the preview and how many upgrade from a previous version of Windows.
