A new round of statistics provided by Valve for its own Steam gaming platform shows that last month Windows 8.1 64-bit adoption has grown and more gamers actually moved to this particular operating system.

At this point, Windows 7 64-bit is the number one operating system on Steam with a share of 48.92 percent, down 0.49 percent, followed by Windows 8.1 64-bit with 17.75 percent, this time up 1.56 percent.

The 32-bit version of Windows 7 is third with 11.68 percent, while Windows 8 64-bit is fourth with 8.25 percent, an increase of 0.24 percent. Windows XP 32-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit come next with 4.69 percent and 1.84 percent, respectively.

The biggest increase this month was posted by Windows 8.1 64-bit, while Windows 7 32-bit lost most users, with stats pointing to a 0.53 percent drop.

Of course, Microsoft must be pleased with these stats, but it’s pretty clear that adoption of the modern operating system isn’t going exactly as expected, especially because the core Windows 8 OS was launched almost two years ago.

On the other hand, Windows XP migration seems to be running much better these days, with more and more users on Steam deciding to drop the old platform in favor of a newer one.
