Things are going really well for Microsoft’s modern platforms these days, and in addition to an important growth that was experienced in the OS market, Windows 8.1 is also gaining more fans on gaming platforms.

Statistics provided by Valve for its very own Steam platform reveal that Windows 8.1 is the only operating system that actually scored an increase in share last month, in both 32- and 64-bit versions.

Windows 7, which continues to be the leader in Steam market share with 47.53 percent, lost 0.20 percent of its users, but Windows 8.1 64-bit increased its user base by 1.15 percent to reach a record 21.60 percent.

Windows 7 32-bit is third with 11.61 percent, down 0.07 percent from the month before, while Windows 8 64-bit comes next with 7.09 percent and a drop of 0.48 percent versus September 2014.

Windows 8.1 32-bit is currently installed on only 0.58 percent of the computers also running Steam, but it however managed to post an increase of 0.05 percent from the month before.

If you’re wondering, Windows continues to be number one on Steam with a share of 95.33 percent, while both Mac OX and Linux are really far behind with 3.44 percent and 1.18 percent, respectively. If the same growing trend is maintained, Windows 8.1 64-bit has really big chances of overtaking Windows 7 in a few months, at least on the Steam gaming platform.
