The Music app, which is installed by default on all Windows 8.1 versions out there, has received a new update today, so make sure you have a look in the store to get the latest build.

According to the official release notes published in the store this morning, the new Music for Windows 8.1 comes with an important change that concerns music files that aren’t stored on the local drives.

“Songs and albums that aren’t on your PC now appear disabled when you’re offline, so it’s easier to tell what you can play,” the release notes reveal.

Minor fixes and other improvements are also part of the release, so if you’ve been experiencing problems with the app, this update should fix them all.

Just as expected, the new version of the Music app is available for all Windows 8.1 builds on the market, so you can download it regardless of whether you are using a desktop computer or a tablet running the Windows RT flavor powering tablets such as the Surface RT.

As usual, the update is automatically delivered to users via the integrated Windows Store, but you can also download Music for Windows 8.1 manually if you’d like to see what’s new without waiting for the new version to show up on your device.
