Microsoft continues work on a new Windows 8.1 Update 1 build, so today new screenshots showing the upcoming release in action have reached the web.

Courtesy of famous Windows leaker WZor, these screenshots confirm that Windows 8.1 Update 1 Build 9600.16606 has been compiled, while also disclosing some pretty interesting features about Microsoft’s first update for Windows 8.1.

As you can see for yourself in the photo gallery below, this build has already renamed SkyDrive to OneDrive, as Microsoft has recently decided to change the name of its cloud-based storage service in order to settle a legal dispute in the United Kingdom.

At the same time, Windows 8.1 Update 1 is now configured to boot directly to desktop and skip the Start screen by default, which means that Microsoft is trying to make the operating system a bit more familiar for desktop users.

Metro apps appear to be running in their own windows, so Redmond is working to make this change as soon as possible and the company might not wait until Windows 9 to do it.
