New study shows that Windows 8 is doing more harm than good to the PC industry

Windows 8 is once again blamed for its impact on the PC industry, with a new survey released by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index revealing that Microsoft's OS is one of the key reasons for a new drop in the overall rating received by PCs.

While Apple continues to lead the charts with a score of 80 points, HP, Dell, Toshiba, and Acer are still trailing behind, pretty much because of Windows 8.

According to the findings, half of the participants purchased a new computer running Windows 8 and most have been less satisfied than those who bought a Windows 7 device one year before.

“Microsoft’s revamped Windows 8 operating system does not seem to have provided a bounce in sales or in customer satisfaction for these manufacturers,” ACSI Director David VanAmburg explained.

While HP boosted its score by 1 point, Dell lost 2 percent as compared to 2012 before eventually reaching a consumer satisfaction index of 79 percent. Acer also lost 3 points, dropping to 77 percent.

Microsoft hasn't yet issued a statement on this, but the Softies could only be disappointed with the new study, as they still have pretty high expectations from the operating system and its first major update projected to be unveiled in October.
