Some users cannot download files on their new Windows 8 computers

Soon after Microsoft officially launched the Windows 8 operating system on October 26, 2012, lots of users started complaining about an unknown issue blocking them from downloading files on their PCs.

It turns out that the same problems are still experienced by a number of consumers, as more complaints keep showing up on Microsoft’s support forums.

Here’s what one of the users is posting:

“I cannot download ANYTHING at all. I have just bought a brand new laptop with windows 8 and one of the main things I wanted was to be able to do was to be able to access iTunes as I have both an iPad and an iPod. Nothing is wrong with my internet connection and as this is a brand new laptop I have done nothing to it.”

While sometimes the issues can be fixed by simply removing the installed security apps or by performing a clean boot, a number of users claim that in some cases, a fresh Windows 8 installation makes no difference at all.

There’s no workaround available at this point, but we’ve reached out to Microsoft, so we’ll get back to you when and if we receive an answer.
