Microsoft has already revealed that it expects Windows 8 to sell very well from the first months of availability, but the company now sees the product’s launch as a reboot for the entire industry.

Janet Gibbons, director of partner strategy and programmes at Microsoft, said in a statement that Windows 8 is the kind of product that will also revitalize the PC market, although research firms across the world doubt it.

“Windows 8 works at its optimum when you’re using a touch-enabled device. [The launch] is kind of a re-boot for the entire industry, particularly for the OEMs and hardware providers. People will want to get the best experience. To have something that will reinvigorate the [PC] market is a great opportunity for the hardware providers,” she was quoted as saying by channelpro.co.uk.

The new operating system will be unveiled on October 25, as part of a conference held in New York, during which company officials will also showcase some other Microsoft software products, including the new Office 365.
