Windows 8 is slowly increasing its market share, but the latest statistics provided by Valve for its Steam platform indicate that the 64-bit version is actually the second top choice for gamers worldwide.

Last month, 51.95 percent of Steam users were running Windows 7 64-bit, while 14.01 percent of them picked the 64-bit version of Windows 8 to play games.

The 32-bit flavor of Windows 7 came third with 12.70 percent, while Windows XP 32-bit was next with 6.83 percent.

As far as Windows 8 is concerned, the new data shows a 0.67 percent increase for the 64-bit build, while leading Windows 7 version lost 0.44 points.

Overall, 14.81 percent of Steam users are running Windows 8, with figures very likely to grow in the coming months, as Microsoft is getting ready to debut the 8.1 OS update.
