Microsoft is forcing users to use the “Refresh PC” tool

If you’re one of the many users of the world’s number one operating system (hint: Windows 7), you most likely know that it includes a “File Recovery” option that allows you to back up and restore the locally stored data with minimum effort.

A similar tool is available in Windows 8 too, but Microsoft’s new operating system also comes with two other options, namely “Refresh by PC” and “Reset my PC.”

It appears that Windows Blue, the first major upgrade of Windows 8, might remove the File Recovery option completely, as Microsoft is apparently trying to force users to stick to the refresh tool.

According to gHacks.net, the first leaked build of Windows Blue doesn’t have a file recovery option at all, so users who wish to restore their files have no other option than to access the PC refresh menu.

While it’s indeed helpful, this particular feature doesn’t restore the computer to a previous user-defined state, but only to a clean installation, while retaining personal data and Modern apps.

Of course, keep in mind that this is only an early build of Blue, so Microsoft might change some features before the stable version comes out.
