Windows Phone’s market share increased last month

Microsoft still struggles to make Windows Phone a better rival for Android and iOS, and Windows 10 Mobile is supposed to continue this effort in a more effective way, but in the meantime, the existing mobile platform owned by the Redmond-based tech giant still struggles to gain more users.

And according to data provided by Net Applications, last month Windows Phone did manage to increase its market share from 2.07 percent in the month before to 2.45 percent in May 2015 and a similar growth is expected to be experienced this month too.

But overall, Windows Phone still has a long way to go to compete against Android and iOS, and according to statistics, Microsoft’s mobile platform continues to be the third mobile platform out there.

Android currently has a share of 51.59 percent, Net Applications says, while iOS is the second platform in the charts with 38.98 percent, so Windows Phone clearly needs to do a lot more than that to become a stronger alternative for Android and iOS.

Windows 10 Mobile is already in development right now, and users can download and install a preview build, but the final version of the operating system won’t arrive sooner than the fall of 2015. Some sources say that Microsoft is looking at October as a possible release date, but more information will probably be provided at a later date.
