Together with Windows 8.1 Preview, Microsoft will also release an update for the Windows RT platform that’s currently powering several tablets, including the tech giant’s own Surface RT.

The editors over at WinFuture have come across a Surface RT already running Windows RT 8.1 at BUILD, which basically confirms that Microsoft is going to roll out the update in just a few hours.

While little can be said about Windows RT 8.1 Preview after looking at these photos, previous reports indicated that Microsoft would significantly improve the Start screen with new live tile size options, as well as with other customization options supposed to enhance the Metro UI.

At the same time, Microsoft has tried to make the Windows Store and the Start screen look better in portrait mode, as Windows 8.1 is said to be specifically aimed at smaller tablets equipped with 7- and 8-inch screens.
