The cheapest Microsoft Surface comes with no less than 32 GB of storage space and, while this could sound impressive for tablet users, the truth is that you won’t get so much space.

According to Ricardo Lopez, test manager for Surface RT, Windows RT and all the other pre-installed apps take up around 12 GB of storage space, which means that you get only 20 GB.

“After the OS, OfficeRT and a bunch of apps, you will still have more than 20GB. As you say, you can always add an SD card and while you cannot add apps there, you can get music, movies and photos there,” he said.

If you were wondering, iOS on iPad needs much less space, as around 1.0 GB of the flash memory is reserved in a System Partition used for the actual OS installation.
