Microsoft has announced general availability of the new Windows Server version

Microsoft has just announced that Windows Server 2012 R2 is now available for customers, promising to provide them with the best-in-class server experience currently on the market.

Redmond said in a blog post that it has implemented significant changes into this new release, including updates for server virtualization, storage, networking, server management and automation, web and application platform, access and information protection and virtual desktop infrastructure.

The blog post then goes on to detail all these improvements, with the emphasis on cloud capabilities, as Microsoft says that Windows Server 2012 R2 is not only one of the most advanced products in its category, but also a very cost effective choice.

“Windows Server 2012 R2 provides a best-in-class server experience that cost-effectively cloud-optimizes your business. When you optimize your business for the cloud with Windows Server 2012 R2, you take advantage of your existing skillsets and technology investments. You also gain all the Microsoft experience behind building and operating private and public clouds – right in the box,” it said.
