The recently-released firmware updates and security patches have apparently broken down many of the features available on Surface tablets, no matter the model.
While some Surface Pro 2 tablet owners cannot install the firmware update launched on Patch Tuesday, Surface 2 users claim that Windows Update no longer works in the Metro UI after installing these security fixes.
“I have just finished installation of December 2013 Surface 2 updates via Windows Update. I wanted to check what was installed via Windows Update history, but according to modern UI Update & Recovery panel no updates have been successfully installed and no updates failed. They are not listed at all,” one user explained on the forums.
A Microsoft support engineer has already confirmed that there might be a bug on some tablets, but no workaround has been released, which means that the company is probably looking into the issue right now.
