Consumers stick to Windows XP in spite of Microsoft’s warnings

Microsoft continues to urge everyone to dump Windows XP and move to a newer OS, but new stats indicate that the tech giant’s efforts are almost useless.

Data provided by StatCounter for the first 15 days of May indicate that Windows XP continues to hold a 21.12 percent market share, even though the operating system will be discontinued in less than 12 months.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has issued a new warning for users across the world, especially because sticking to XP beyond its retirement date could expose their data and make unpatched systems vulnerable to attacks.

The Softies most likely expect the Windows XP migration to gain traction after the public launch of Windows 8.1 expected to take place later this year.

A preview build of 8.1 will be unveiled next month at the BUILD developer conference, while the stable version could be released in October.
