Windows XP support is coming to an end, so users and businesses around the world are urged to make the move to a newer version of the operating system, be it 7 or 8.

Michael Barnes, vice-president and research director at Forrester, tells AsiaOne in an interview that Windows XP will soon have the fate of Windows 98, as the operating system will also lose driver and app support.

“For instance, as with Windows 98 and Windows 2000, drivers for new hardware will quickly become non-existent, creating compatibility issues,” Barnes explains in a short statement.

Windows XP is still installed on nearly 37 percent of computers worldwide, according to figures provided by Net Applications, and statistics reveal that it barely loses any users each month.

Microsoft, on the other hand, hopes that the transition will be completed by April 8, especially because it needs more adopters for its newly-launched Windows 8.
