XYplorer has been updated to version 12.40 recently. Although the improvement it brings to the table does not seem to touch on functionality in particular, it does enhance the visibility of specific folders.

The developer integrated the possibility to assign custom icons to folders bearing a certain name. This could help identify the contents of a repository at a single glance. Furthermore, personalized icons can be assigned to files, too.

This feature is fully portable, so you can have the same icon customization when running the file manager from a USB drive. All standard icons in Windows remain untouched so the registry is not affected by the changes.

A test icons pack is made available for download by the developer at this address.

The entire customization can be turned on or off at any time from XYplorer’s configuration panel and no restart is required for the change to occur.
