Microsoft is introducing some new Internet Explorer options for enterprises, even though the company’s main focus is now Edge browser in Windows 10.

Starting with the Windows 10 Creators Update and the cumulative updates released this month, Microsoft is allowing enterprises to block VBScript execution in Internet Explorer 11 for all document modes, after previously allowing it only for websites rendered in legacy document modes.

The company says that this was just a temporary solution, so starting this month, it offers blocking options for all document modes, while also recommending developers to update websites to use JavaScript.

“Users can configure this behavior per site security zone via registry or via Microsoft Easy fix solution. Enterprise customers can also configure this behavior via Group Policy,” Microsoft says.

More changes are planned in the future, and Internet Explorer 11 will soon block VBScript execution by default for websites in the Internet Zone and the Restricted Sites Zone.

“The settings to enable, disable, or prompt for VBScript execution in Internet Explorer 11 will remain configurable per site security zone, via Registry or via Group Policy, for a limited time,” it says.

Internet Explorer 11 is no longer Microsoft’s browser of choice, as the full focus is now on Edge, the new default in Windows 10, and the company hopes that more users would embrace it after completing the upgrade to the new operating system.
