This is likely to replace the existing Albums tab

Microsoft is reportedly experimenting with a new change in Windows 10 that would have the Photos app replace the existing Albums tab with a new one called Stories.

While at this point the change is not yet official, some insiders are already seeing the new Stories tab, and according to reports, no functionality has been added.

In the existing version of the Photos app, the Albums tab provides nothing more than basic features, allowing users to organize options by albums (or folders) that are then synchronized to all devices that are using the same Microsoft account.

With Stories, however, Microsoft could offer much more than that, though it’s very clear that this is a change still in its early days. Most likely, if Stories makes it to the Windows 10 Photos app, it could get new functionality with the release of the Windows 10 Redstone 3 due in September.

At the same time, it’s no secret that more advanced features for the Photos apps are still needed, including support for tagging people in your pictures, but again, there are no details as to when and if this could arrive on Windows 10 devices.

For the moment, the stable builds of the Windows 10 Photos app feature the same Albums tab, but there’s no doubt that more signs of new features will show up in the coming weeks, as work advances on Redstone 3.
