New build of Office released to Android insiders

Microsoft has just released an update for Office on Android as part of the Office Insider program, ahead of the public launch that's projected to take place later this month.

This time, the release doesn't bring as many dramatic updates as the previous versions, but it's still worth a look for Android users who need Office apps on their devices.

First and foremost, Microsoft PowerPoint is getting a new feature in this version, so users can add, change, delete, or reply to comments in a presentation straight from their Android phones or tablets. This is a highly-requested feature that was also released on Windows 10 Mobile devices earlier this year.

Then, Microsoft Excel gets two different improvements, one of which allows users to open files that contain Dialog sheets. Again, Microsoft says this was a feature that many insiders requested, so with the next public update, everyone should be able to open files with Dialog sheets in Office for Android.

And the second Excel update allows you to quickly switch to the new numeric keypad when you enter numbers or simple functions, and this way productivity should be greatly enhanced.

The version that you need to install to get these improvements as part of the Office Insider program is 16.0.8229.1001. It's a preview of the June 2017 feature update and the production ring should receive it later this month.
