New versions of Word and Excel now up for grabs

Microsoft has just rolled out updated versions of Word and Excel for Windows 10, so users can now fire up the store and get them on their PCs and laptops running the new OS.

As it happens with 99 percent of the app updates, Microsoft hasn’t provided a detailed change log to let us know what is new in this release, so you basically have to download the new versions without actually knowing what’s included.

That’s certainly frustrating, and that’s why so many users are now calling for Microsoft to adapt its strategy and include change logs in every new app update, but for the moment, the company doesn’t really seem to be willing to do so.

The Office suite for Windows 10 is free of charge on all devices running the new OS, but if you’re looking for document editing capabilities on bigger screens, an Office 365 subscription is needed. Otherwise, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are nothing more than document viewers compatible with the standard formats used by the Office suite.

There still are plenty of Windows 10 adopters who are using these Office apps on their computers, so if you’re one of them, you should get the new updates too. In case they’re not yet available in the store, you can manually check for updates by clicking on your profile pic and going to the Downloads and updates section.
