NetMarketShare data points to Windows Phone recovery

The whole world is talking about the death of Windows phones, as Microsoft no longer wants to invest in the platform, yet market research firm NetMarketShare claims that Redmond’s mobile platform is actually recovering, and last month it even managed to increase its share.

Without a doubt, you shouldn’t take these stats for granted, but the company claims Windows Phone improved from 1.33 percent in March to 1.59 percent in April, thus reaching the biggest market share since December when it was running on 1.76 percent of devices.

While it’s hard to believe this is true, NetMarketShare puts Android on the first place with a share of 65.19 percent, while iOS is second with 31.06 percent.

The majority of research firms claim Android is leading the market with more than 80 percent share, followed by iOS with nearly 20 percent, and all the other platforms, including Windows Phone, with less than 1 percent.

Unfortunately for Windows Phone fans, these stats seem to be nothing else than wishful thinking, and there’s no chance to see the platform growing with Microsoft not at all interested in mobile devices. Living proof is the company’s most recent forecast for the current quarter, when it admitted that it expected only negligible revenue from Windows phones.

As far as the future of the platform is concerned, the software giant is reportedly aiming to complete the Windows Phone wind-down at the end of the quarter, which takes place in June.
