If Skype isn’t really your cup of tea, but you still want to use video calling, you should give Viber a chance because the app has recently received an update that brings such functionality on Windows phones too.

The universal app version of Viber was released on Windows 10 earlier this year, and an update that has gone live today in the store finally brings video call support too, in addition to the regular audio calls that have been available since launch.

We’ve already tested Viber’s video calling capabilities, and everything seems to be running smoothly, although we’ve noticed a small lag when not using Wi-Fi. The same is happening for HD audio calls too, so if you’re on 3G or LTE, you’d better wait for your contact to say what they have to say because, otherwise, you might end up with a really difficult conversation.

The Viber update brings the app to version 6.1, so this is the one you should be looking for if you want to get video calling on your Windows phone.

Other than that, the feature lineup of Viber remains completely unchanged, and you still get messaging support, stickers, group chats, options to delete messages, live tiles for Windows 10 users, and touch optimizations to make sure that everything runs great on tablets and smartphones powered by Microsoft’s OS.
