WinZip is the latest big company that launches an universal app on Windows 10, as the powerful compression tool can now work on both PCs and smartphones powered by Microsoft’s latest operating system.

The app provides almost the same features as the standard Win32 app, but with a touch-optimized interface, so you can use it on phones and tablets quite easily.

It allows you to create, open, and edit archives, offering at the same time encryption options and support for several cloud-based storage services, including Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft’s OneDrive.

The application can be used for free for 20 days, but a subscription is then required. A one-year subscription is available for $7.99 (€6.5).

It goes without saying that Microsoft is very pleased to see such a popular app getting a universal version for Windows 10, so the company applauded WinZIP for its interest in this new concept.

“WinZip has been developing applications that millions of users have relied on to be more productive over the years. With the new WinZip Universal, WinZip is expanding the rich file sharing and file management features it's known for on the desktop to the full range of Windows 10 devices,” said Jason Hermitage, general manager, Microsoft Canada.

The app is already in the store and works on both PCs and smartphones, so go ahead and download WinZip for Windows 10 to see what it’s up to.
