Salasil Desktop

Designed as a solution for teachers to effortlessly share presentations and video tutorials with their students, Salasil Desktop is a Windows application that can capture webcam, screen and microphone footage in order to create and save videos.

It comes bundled with video annotation tools that make it possible to quickly wrap up the clips and publish them online or send them via email. Also, registered users can take advantage of video editing features for trimming clips, muting or replacing voice. They can apply custom watermarks too.

Salasil Desktop tries to put emphasis on simplicity, adopting a clean and intuitive interface that enables anyone to swiftly get familiar to its features, including PC users without previous experience in webcam-related software.

Following a speedy setup operation that requires minimal user intervention, you can get started by connecting a webcam and microphone device to the computer unit. Unfortunately, Salasil Desktop does not give users the possibility of disabling the microphone, in case you want to create silenced video.

The main app window lists the three main components for creating lessons using: the webcam, screen, or both. You can change the camera size, use buttons for starting, pausing and stopping the recording, preview videos in a built-in player and switch to fullscreen mode, as well as save them to file (MP4, AVI, MOV, WEBM).

When the screen or webcam-and-screen recording mode is selected, Salasil Desktop transforms the whole desktop into a whitepaper where you can draw presentation tools (pens and brushes), add sticky notes, or use a magnifier. Snapshots can be taken too, then saved as image file. From the settings panel, you can change the webcam and microphone if you have multiple devices lined up.

The program worked smoothly in our tests. If we were to talk about downsides, we would mention the lack of additional control over the video saving operation (e.g. resolution) as well as video publishing options. However, Salasil Desktop has plenty of potential.
