Keeping track of and being involved in all stages of development of software projects can be a daunting task, as we’re sure most independent developers can attest. Of course, developers can always turn to specialized tools to help relieve some of the burdens when it comes to developing and maintaining small or personal software projects.

VersionTracker is one such tool and, as its name makes it quite clear, its main role is that of helping developers maintain and generate version history logs, also commonly known as changelogs.

Besides the fact that it looks rather modern, and it’s remarkably easy to use, VersionTracker’s main appeal comes from its collection of useful automation tools that together make writing and exporting changelogs feel like a walk in the park.

The application makes it extremely easy for developers to create changelogs with automatic version incrementing, set release dates with a few mouse clicks, reference notes to store commit or ticket IDs, as well as copy notes from the list as plain text.

Developers are also offered the chance to customize the type of verbs (i.e. new, fixed, updated, changed, removed, etc.), as well as sort them into special categories. Of course, the verbs and the version themselves can be rearranged using intuitive drag and drop gestures.

When it comes to export formats, users are allowed to export changelogs to three formats, namely DocuWiki, HTML, and plain text. The first type of format creates a changes table for DocuWiki pages, and the header is represented by the save file name with Title Case applied. The HTML pages exported from the app can be effortlessly used on most websites and can be edited using CSS.
