The name of BD3D2MK3D says all about its purpose: it is designed to convert 3D BDs to 3D MKV video files as easily and quickly as possible. With a long history behind it, BD3D2MK3D today relies on efficient tools to deliver a Blu-ray videos to other more versatile formats.

While not a classic wizard where you press the “Next” button to go to the next step, BD3D2MK3D does provide a wizard-based GUI where each step is available in a separate tab. Needless to say, you must go through all the steps to configure the settings and carry out the conversion.

BD3D2MK3D accepts both Blu-ray 3D files and 3D AVC+MVC MKV created with MakeMKV. You must choose the input mode and select the files to convert in the first step of the wizard. Please keep in mind that any input Blu-ray disc must be unencrypted, while 3D MKV files must include the MPEG4-MVC-3D video track.

The second step of the wizard requires you to select the audio and the subtitle streams to include in the output. Both 3D and 2D subtitles can be preserved.   Next, you must deal with the movie title and other tags. BD3D2MK3D allows you to launch a search on the web based on the movie title to find details about the director, the cast and the rest of the production team, the release date, the plot and other such details. The cover art can be extracted from the current metadata, if available, but note that you can also add a cover art picture to customize the movie cover.

Last but not least, you must go through a series of conversion options to customize AviSynth options, video resizing and the encoding settings. Given the nature of the application, it might take a lot of time to perform a conversion. Having the option to put the PC to sleep or shutting it down once the task is completed is a useful option.

BD3D2MK3D provides a GUI that brings together the functionality of various individual tools to allow the quick conversion of 3DBDs or AVC+MVC MKV to 3D SBS, TAB or Frame-sequential MKV. It might not be so easy for beginners to go through the necessary configuration, but advanced users will surely appreciate the array of customization options this application offers.
