Spending too much time in front of the computer can make you easily forget about other activities that might later on have a negative impact. In this regard, it’s good to use specialized applications like Alarm Clock to set up quick reminders with messages, so you don’t miss important activities, events, or other things you might want or need to attend to.
The application comes in a lightweight package that takes a little while to get deployed on your computer. You’re then free to launch it to see what it’s all about. A compact main window shows up on launch, with a clock that lets you know what time it is, so you get an idea of how much is left until the next activity.
Alarm Clock is, as the name suggests, nothing more than a means of setting up an alert at a specific time. In this regard, there are five different sound chimes you can choose from, but there’s also an option to manually pick a WAV file from your computer.
Setting up the alarm is an easy task, with the only requirement being to fill in numerical values for hour, minute, and second when you want to be alerted. By default, the alarm is stopped, but enabling it immediately hides the application to the system tray, so you need to configure all options of interest before this is done.
Apart from the sound alert, the application lets you set a custom message popup to show up on your screen, and even manage computer power options to shut down, stand by, or log you off. Unfortunately, you can only set one alarm at a time, and it’s not possible to run more instances to bypass this issue.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Alarm Clock is a lightweight utility you might want to keep around either to help you get out of bed in the morning, or remind you of upcoming events. Multiple chimes can be selected to alert you, with options to also have a message on screen, or handle several power options for more comfort.
