There are various ways to tell the time, and even Windows puts a clock in the tray area. Since everything revolves around time, it’s good to always have a clock in plain sight. Chances are you want it to look cool as well, and you can use applications like CubeVision Clock in this regard for an alternative desktop clock.

One of the main advantages is that the application comes in a lightweight package and doesn’t even require installation to function. As such, you can even carry it with you on a USB flash drive in case you want to use it on all computers you work with. Note, however, that it requires .NET Framework to function, but it’s usually delivered in the default set of Windows features.

Truth be told, the application might not really strike you as appealing at first. Features are wrapped around a classic window frame, which can be expanded to include a calendar besides the default clock display. The window is fitted with a certain degree of transparency, but it cannot be changed.

The application reads system time for the clock, so you can’t really use it to show a different time zone. In case you want to always have it in plain sight, there’s a dedicated function to make it topmost. It can be minimized to the tray area when not directly used, and its options can be triggered from the associated menu.

Apart from the tray icon, options can also be adjusted by right-clicking the interface. These count as a color changer for the clock digits, toggle the display of the calendar, and whether or not to stay on top of everything else.

Bottom line is that CubeVision Clock doesn’t necessarily come with improvements over the Windows default clock, but rather as an alternative mode to tell the time. It can be made to sit on top of everything else and fitted with a calendar.
