ModClock

ModClock is a lightweight and easy-to-use application specially designed for desktops, tablets, laptops and notebooks running Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

It takes a one-of-a-kind and elegant approach toward displaying the system time. Instead of showing a digital or analog clock, it spells time in words. As far as customization preferences are concerned, the tool gives you the possibility to change the background color.

Just like any other trusted Metro app, ModClock can be downloaded and installed from the Windows Store in just a couple of clicks. It gets launched in a large window with a blue background, where it spells the current time.

For example, if the system clock shows 8:25, then the app spells "it is twenty five past eight." If it shows 8:30, then it says "it is half past eight." However, it doesn't spell time within a 5-minute range.

If you tint your head slightly while looking at the background, you can notice semi-transparent letters arranged in a square. Depending on what the time is, ModClock intelligently highlights the correct letters to be able to spell it.

To change the background color, right-click somewhere on the window or click the burger button on the upper-left corner to select App commands. The tool reveals a small bar on the bottom side, where you can select green or red instead of blue background.

There are no other notable options implemented by the developer. Thanks to the built-in Windows features, it's possible to take a snapshot of the main window and share the image with your friends using various apps you have installed.

All things considered, ModClock may not be filled with rich features, but it delivers an elegant solution for reading time off your desktop.
