Since the computer is a powerful multifunctional tool, it’s used in almost any domain of activity. One particular trait is accuracy, and it can even be used to simply measure components on desktop, such as technical scaled designs. In this regard, Dwarf puts a set of tools at your disposal with which to find out size specifications of anything that’s on your desktop.

The application skips you the effort and struggle of going through a setup process, which means you can use the application directly after it got downloaded. However, this is only possible if Adobe AIR is already installed on your computer, because it’s one of the main requirements.

Most of the time the application quietly sits in the tray area, but there’s also an upper toolbar that only becomes visible when moving the cursor near it, and provides quick access to most of its functions. More specific settings are found in the context menu of each element you bring on the desktop.

Dwarf gives you the possibility to work with two elements, one of which is a grid. It’s transparent by default, so you can see the area behind it. The level of transparency can be adjusted, as well as the color. Moving and resizing is easily done with the mouse, but you can also work with keyboard hotkeys for gradual adjustment of size and location.

The other measuring element is a guideline. It covers the screen from one edge to the other, and you can either set it to vertical or horizontal positioning. Just like the grid, you can set a transparency level, but size can’t be changed. Sadly, there aren’t any snap options so you need to carefully position each element if you are to accurately grab values.

Bottom line is that the application you use to create your projects might not be fitted with all the tools you need. It’s up to simple tools like Dwarf to provide extra extensions you need, but help save you time and effort, but also provide that degree of accuracy you’re looking for.
