Virtual Desktop

Working with a lot of active windows can surely become frustrating, unless you’re using multiple monitors. Even so, these can pile up on a single desktop and make every task time-consuming simply to find the window you need. In this regard, Virtual Desktop lets you easily configure your workspace with four different slots.

A major advantage here is portability. This enables you to use the application to manage windows regardless of the computer you’re using, and this operation can even be performed from a thumb drive. Runtime doesn’t affect registry entries, so you don’t have to worry about the health status of the target PC.

There’s no actual main window attached to the application, or any documentation to get you started. On the other hand, a couple of minutes of testing is enough to teach you all it has to offer. Slots you use show up just above the tray area when the application is launched, with cool transparency applied so it doesn’t interfere with other activities.

Don’t be fooled by the name, because the application handles all active windows in all desktop instances, without options to create lists of windows to be available in different desktops. In fact, management is done by arranging active windows in each of the four available slots, with position and visibility remembered for each virtual space.

Sure enough the application greatly enhances desktop management with a lot of windows. Unfortunately, it’s not really refined, and it could have used hotkey commands to easily switch between desktops. Presets can’t be saved, and if you want to have it ready by the time you reach the desktop it needs to be manually done by placing a shortcut in the system Startup folder.

On an ending note, Virtual Desktop extends your workspace with three more slots to fill up with important windows. Although it comes with a pretty shallow set of features, and little flexibility because of the lack of hotkey support, it’s sure to make work with an abundance of windows a lot more comfortable.
