Computer interaction has come a long way in only a few years, and what once started from a simple, command line terminal is now a visual treat, which anyone can easily access and use. However, this doesn’t make command line utilities obsolete, and various activities are still performed this way. For a bit of fun, LittleToaster can display custom messages on the desktop.

Since it’s a command line utility, it comes in a lightweight package which does not need to be installed. No changes are made to system registry entries to ensure functionality, and an elevated instance of Command Prompt is not necessarily required.

Launching the utility without using Command Prompt brings up a sample message to help provide an idea of what can be accomplished. A small, custom panel slides in from the tray area for a few seconds to deliver a custom message.

Configuring a new message is not rocket science, as all is needed is for the user to type the message. There are no switches to use to make a message appear, and it’s enough to add a custom text string between quotation marks. If quotation marks are not used, then only the first word appears.
