StayAwake

Stay-Awake is well-known among Python users as a lightweight package that can keep the system awake without affecting the workflow. StayAwake is a Windows tool inspired by the script that fulfills the same function, namely to keep the system awake when you are away.

The application is as simple as it gets and does not have a setup, but rather you can simply download and launch it. The interface is similar to Command Line, although users do not have to use any commands. In fact, it is intended to be used as a command line tool and it is headless.

The idea behind the tool is to react when it does not detect any mouse movements in a span of 60 seconds. Once the interval has passed, the program automatically moves the mouse for an insignificant distance between 5 to 15 pixels in a random location. The developer points out that the movement does not cause mouse displacement and hence, does not disrupt you during your work.

While the aforementioned values are set by default, you should bear in mind that you can customize the time interval and range of movement. More precisely, you can access the ENV file and make the necessary modifications to environment variables. There are 4 configuration properties available, namely the Info logging level, time interval as well as the minimum and maximum offset pixels.

The tool can come in handy in a variety of situations, including when you come back to the computer after a small break or when you are watching a video or during a presentation, when you do not need to access the mouse or keyboard for a long time.
