WorkspaceCover

WorkspaceCover provides a quick and easy method to hide all the items on your desktop. How does it do that? Well, it puts them all under a single-color cover, a virtual cloak that conceals all the desktop elements except for the taskbar.

You might wonder why you would need such a software utility. Well, if your work style includes having icons on the desktop right at hand and if you are using lots of applications simultaneously, then it might be difficult when trying to take a screenshot with a clear background or record a tutorial. A cluttered desktop might make your audience confused, since the instructions would be more difficult to follow.

What WorkspaceCover does is place a blank window over the entire desktop workspace, leaving the taskbar visible. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to change the size of the cover window, so you are stuck with the default full-screen mode if you want to use it. Nevertheless, you can set the WorkspaceCover window to always stay on top of others. Please note that the cover is not placed on secondary screens, if any.

The background of the single-color window is white, by default, but you can use the system tray menu or right-click on the WorkspaceCover window to open a menu with options that allows you to change the color to any. The color change window is also shown if you double-click on the window.

The developers of WorkspaceCover did not want this small application to interfere with your workflow and that is why the tooll runs in the system tray, by default. However, you can disable both the tray icon and the taskbar button.
