Unless you configured your PC not to, typically the screen will turn off after a certain period of inactivity. Sometimes, however, you want to turn off your monitor, while it completes a certain task that doesn’t require your assistance. With most monitors, that’s just a simple operation of pressing the power button.

Then again, not all monitors are that simple to maneuver, and this is where tools like monoff could come in handy. As the name suggests, this is a simple tool that allows you to conveniently turn off your monitor.

The application is as simple as it gets and doesn’t require installation; simple click on it to toggle off the monitor. It works similarly as you would hit the power button or after the pre-established interval of inactivity. Press any button to turn it back on again.

The app doesn’t feature any interface, which is not necessarily a drawback considering the role of the tool. You can add it to your taskbar shortcut so that you can access it easily. The developer mentions that you can add a delay to it, if necessary, by editing the edit the Target value in its properties.

Although, it may not seem as much at first, the truth is that monoff can be useful for users who are using laptops or whose monitors have power switches that are hard to reach. In both cases, the app can prove more practical and convenient than over-reaching for the power button or closing the laptop lid.
