My Folders

The desktop can quickly become a crowded space, especially if you need to work your way around many files and folders on a daily basis. However, you can create custom launchers for those of interest, so you can either keep the desktop clean, or quickly batch delete more files and folders, without worrying important ones are affected. In this regard, My Folders comes with just the right means to help you out.

Once the application is installed, it automatically goes to the system tray, and is where it spends most of its time. All functions are accessed from the corresponding icon, but you can choose to disable the tray icon from the setup panel, making the custom folder context menu open through different methods.

Some important locations on your computer are already added to the default list, such as the desktop, multimedia library folders, and the OneDrive folder. Adding more items to the list can’t be done by dragging them over the main window, but there is a system context menu integration that works with folders, quickly adding them with a couple of mouse clicks.

As mentioned above, My Folders gives you the possibility to access folders through several other methods apart from the tray icon. This can either be done by specifying a custom hotkey, making the special context menu appear next to the mouse cursor, or through the middle mouse button in file dialogs.

For enhanced comfort, the application lets you have a different explorer window brought up for every new item opened, so the current one is not changed. There’s also the option explore the directory, or open it. Sadly, creating cascading folders is not possible, and neither can you add programs or other files.

Bottom line is that Windows already comes with a decent amount and variety of methods to make favorite locations easily accessible, and My Folders wants to extend this possibility. The overall process is simple, letting anyone accommodate in a jiffy, while the support for hotkeys leaves no visual traces of the application, thus being worth a try overall.
