A lightweight, yet efficient application designed to provide a convenient method to catalog files for a better management of your data #Catalog file #Catalog data #File management #Catalog #Cataloger #Organize
File management is not a difficult task, given that you can find anything of interest in a few seconds by initiating a search process. However, a proper management is another task, and you might want to use other applications to skip you the effort of working with complex directory structures. For instance, you can create a database of all important files with File Manager.
It takes only a little while to get the application up and running and deploy it on your computer. Running it brings up the main window and all functions you get to work with. It may seem a bit confusing until you figure out what each panel is used for.
The general structure of the main window is that of an advanced file manager. There’s a tree view of folders of the drive you select from a drop-down menu, with navigation being pretty easy. Below, there’s a database tree that is fitted with an example of what can be accomplished.
You are free to navigate and view in a list all files from the sample database. However, these can’t be opened and only serve as an example. This isn’t all bad, but even after you create your own database, files still can’t be accessed from the application.
As such, you can only use the built-in features to create a list with details like file name, path, size, and date, which the application automatically grabs from target folders you select. Several filters can be applied to special categories like Project files, documents, multimedia, and installation, but there’s no option to create more.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that File Manager is not really what you’d expect from applications of its kind. Sure enough, navigation through your computer’s folders and creating databases is easy, but the result only consists of a list you can visually analyze, with no management options, leaving a lot more to be desired overall.
