Download Deployer

Download Deployer is able to copy or move files from a specified directory to other locations by taking into account their file types or names. It can also remove files based on the same criteria. This app was designed to sort items from your downloads directory.

There is no installation involved, which makes Download Deployer portable. You can save the program files in any part of the hard disk or on a removable storage unit, in order to launch the tool on any PC effortlessly. Just make sure the storage device is not write-protected, as it creates some additional files at runtime.

It's wrapped in a user-friendly interface made from a small window with a plain and simple structure, where all options are visible.

The utility has several predefined filters for cleaning up Readme and sample files, as well as for moving pictures and videos. However, you can create custom profiles by specifying a profile name along with file names and extensions.

It's possible to create as many profiles as you want with different settings, remove any of them, enable case sensitive mode, specify the source folder, pick the output directory for copying or moving the files to, as well as select the file operation mode between move, delete and copy.

Worth noting is that the "Enabled" option must be changed before deploying the task. Plus, the settings can be saved for the next launch of Download Deployer.

The preset profiles have a rather complicated pattern for file names and extensions, which might intimidate casual users. However, according to numerous tests we have conducted, we have noticed that this pattern can be simplified.

For example, you can just write "readme" (without quotation marks) to identify all files with this full or partial name, as well as ".zip" to detect all archives with the ZIP extension. If you want to put together patterns of multiple file names and extensions, make sure to delimit them using the "|" vertical bar symbol, without any blank spaces (e.g. "readme|.zip").

The software application carried out file transfers swiftly in our evaluation while remaining light on system resources consumption. However, it pops up an error if there are files with existing names in the destination folder when attempting to copy or move items.

Unfortunately, Download Deployer has unclear guidelines concerning file name patterns, and it doesn't implement options for monitoring directories to automatically detect files to take action. It's rather tricky to figure out.
