File Explorer (PE)

When creating a WinPE disk image for troubleshooting and running system diagnostics, you need basic applications that are both lightweight, low-demanding and, ideally, portable.

File Explorer (PE) ticks all the boxes, delivering an install-free file manager with a very small footprint and with low impact on the host system. Specifically cut out for WinPE images, it can also be used as a standalone application for regular Windows OS.

File Explorer (PE) displays the total size of each partition on your hard disk and the free space that is available for use. In other words, it delivers information at a glance about the storage occupation percentage.

The explorer features a tree-like view similar to that of the regular Windows Explorer. You get to browse through drives and folders, network shares and pinned locations as well. Selecting any folder opens it up, allowing you to preview its contents in a separate panel.

File Explorer (PE) features integrated file preview, allowing you to view small previews of images, HTML and text files, and even load audio files using the embedded media player.

Up to now, you might think that File Explorer (PE) offers you an experience similar to the regular Windows Explorer and you wouln’t entirely be wrong.   However, alongside the tree-view explorer, File Explorer (PE) also comes with a Dual Explorer, which can be used for browsing through the files and folders located on the host computer. There are options to select and copy or move files and carry out other similar file management actions.

It is also worth mentioning that File Explorer (PE) also comes with a search tool, which enforces several other criteria: by name, by date and time, by size, and more.

While it is designed for use on a WinPE environment, File Explorer (PE) also comes as a standalone app for all-day use. It features both a single and a dual explorer, allowing you to browse for files and folders on the go.
