Flying Carpet is a lightweight utility designed to help you securely transfer files between two computers via an encrypted wireless connection without the infrastructure. To put it simply, all you need to move files between let's say two laptops is to make sure the wireless chips are close in range.

The application is available as a console for advanced users and a portable version for those less tech-savvy who prefer to generally employ a GUI. The interface is user-friendly and includes steps to help you get started.

As indicated, first you need to select the operating system and afterwards specify whether the current machine is sending or receiving data. The third step entails selecting a directory and is only applicable if you want to send files, as you do not seem to be able to choose a folder when receiving files.

The highlight of the tool stems from the fact that it can establish a wireless connection without any network infrastructure, including here routers, switches or access points. The app enables you to transfer multiple and large files without worrying that the connection may drop or be canceled. Most importantly, the files are encrypted during the transit.

The tool comes with a few drawbacks that you should be aware of. For starters, the developer points out that the app disables the wireless connection while, the only exception being Windows when receiving data. At the same time, dragging and dropping files does not currently work on Windows and the tool is incompatible with Macs that run Big Sur on the receiving end.
