File Sorter

Sorting your files is a simple task, but depending on how many files you’re working with, it can be rather awkward to sort everything manually. It’s tedious, and in the age of automation, it’s only natural to want something to make this more efficient.

File Sorter isn’t anything too complicated to use. In fact, it’s really quite simple — you specify a directory, and the utility will neatly sort your files without delay. As such, the program requires minimal input from the user, making it a valid software solution for anyone to try.

The program is very simple to understand. Upon designating a directory, it will scan the respective folder to determine the types of the files within it. After that, it will create a folder for each type, to which it will relocate the respective files accordingly.

All of that happened without delay in my case. I included photos, videos, documents, and audio files, and it was able to group everything satisfactorily. Some extension overlap is present, meaning that the program will classify PDF, .TXT, .DOCX, and other similar file types as documents, for instance.

The overall simplicity of the interface is both good and bad, depending on where you’re coming from. While a to-the-point implementation such as this is appreciated, I would have liked to see support for some configurability.

For instance, designating the file types to be included and/or excluded in the sorting process would be a worthwhile addition, as the program would respond more accurately to the user’s needs. Being able to implement file size thresholds into the mix would further extend this functionality.

File Sorter can be a useful tool for many users. Thanks to being simple to operate, it’s very easy to pick up and use, but the lack of configurability is a bit of a missed opportunity.
