eLibrary

eLibrary is a Java-based application that enables you to quickly look up files after building an index with favorite locations, in order to speed up the entire process and create a comfortable working environment. It supports two search methods, along with automatic query suggestion and completion.

As long as you have Java installed on your computer, you don't need to set up anything else. This means that you can save the executable .jar file anywhere on the disk or copy it to a USB flash drive to be able to seamlessly run it on any PC with Java.

It doesn't modify the system registry by adding new entries and doesn't remember your settings on exit. New files and folders are created whenever you add new items to the index.

The interface of eLibrary is represented by a large window with a simple design, which includes a menu bar. You can start by puttting together the index with the files and folders you want to take into account when conducting searches.

Worth noting is that the index may consist of any number of files and directories, that may be appended at different points in time. Although the index items can be managed by adding and removing objects, eLibrary doesn't actually have a manager in this regard, which would have greatly simplified the entire process. Instead, it's necessary to keep track of files and folders included in the index, in order to later point them out for removal.

The search method can be picked between BM25 and LM Dirichlet, and the automatic query suggestion and completion modules are enabled by default. Moreover, you can instruct the application to extract text content from .txt, .pdf, .doc, .mhd, .ppt and .mp3-formatted files. After displaying search results, you can hover the mouse cursor over any file to find out its full path, as well as right-click an item to open its location in Windows Explorer.

Search operations were quickly carried out in our tests, during which the tool remained light on system resources consumption. It was stable throughout its entire runtime. Although it hasn't received updates for a while, we haven't experienced compatibility issues with the newest edition of Java Runtime Environment.

The interface may seem rudimentary to the untrained eye. However, eLibrary strips off unnecessary graphical elements to focus on functionality and deliver instant file search results.
