Keeping an organized file and folder structure on one’s PC is a great way of preventing accidental loss or mixing of all that important data. However, if things prove to be eventful and such issues do occur, a solid Windows search set of skills is required. Or, an alternative software, such as Scour, which will “scour” your drives for information according to your defined search criteria.

Since the app is portable, that means that no installation process is required and all that users need to do is extract the contents of the provided archive to a location of their preference.

However, right after deploying and initializing the program, it will display a full screen wallpaper, onto which the actual interface will be nested. At first, this might be disturbing, but upon close inspection, the actual desktop wallpaper is not affected, this is how the app actually looks like.

Regarding this program’s search capabilities, a single text entry area is provided and, despite numerous efforts on our tests, we failed to manage to use special symbols or formatting for applying filters or other useful functions.

Although there are two search methods provided, the fact that the program lacks extra features such as filtering, exclusions, simultaneous drive searches or just plain old preview for the listed results, could put-off more demanding users right from the start.

This application addresses those who require a fast, no-brainer software that can serve as an effective alternative to the built-in, default Windows search feature. However, considering its numerous weaknesses and lack of more advanced features, we cannot recommend it as a reliable replacement.
