Cosmic Client

Minecraft is the prime example of a sandbox game: you’re thrown into a procedurally-generated world where you can essentially dictate your experience. There’s more than enough content to go around, which the modding community takes further by providing all manner of modifications and improvements to the base game.

The number of alternative launchers for the game is rather big, but that’s all the better since users have multiple options to consider. Consider adding Cosmic Client to your third-party launcher shortlist: it’s a very polished take that affords you a variety of controls to more closely configure your Minecraft experience.

The launcher almost looks like it’s for a different game at first, and it’s for sure an interesting approach to having its interface require an OpenGL-compatible GPU to run. Nevertheless, once everything is loaded, you should be able to hop into your game with ease: single and multiplayer modes are available, with the mention that you’ll require an account for the latter.

You can still enjoy singleplayer without an account, however. You can create new worlds according to your preferences, much like you would in the base game. Additional options, such as enabling cheats, generating structures, and changing the world type are available.

Users will be able to hop into the game straight away upon selecting their preferred world. What’s interesting is that the game will boot up right in the launcher’s window, and not in a separate instance as is often the case with other launchers.

This allows users to tap into the modifications that have been prepared for them more effectively: pressing the Escape key will open the Game Menu, which contains the Cosmic Client Settings options.

These options will allow you to modify and relocate UI elements by changing the HUD, but they also enable you to tweak in-game mechanics, such as the world border, and more. Performance optimizations can also be carried out in that menu, and thankfully users can get quite in-depth with their configurations.

Cosmic Client is a promising take for a Minecraft client. Its approach is markedly different from other launchers, which can be the deciding factor for some users. It should be noted that the OpenGL interface is not too kind on system resources and is the reason I wouldn’t recommend the client for a lower-spec machine.
