DS4 Tool

While getting a PS4 controller to work on Windows is not as simple as an Xbox controller, it can still be done. There are a few utilities out there that function as emulators, allowing you to use a DualShock 4 gamepad to play games on your PC.

DS4 Tool is a somewhat older program that can serve as an alternative to utilities like DS4Windows. They are similar in functionality, but DS4 Tool can have some issues detecting devices, especially on Windows 10.

First and foremost, you will need to install the drivers. Just go to the program’s folder and run “ScpDriver.exe”. The process is very straightforward, as you just need to click the Install button.

Next, you can either connect your controller via USB or pair it via Bluetooth. You shouldn’t run into any issues, but you can always consult the guide available on the unofficial homepage.

Once you’ve set everything up, you can begin fine-tuning various settings. You can, for instance, modify the threshold of either thumbstick, change the idle timeout, rumble latency, light bar brightness and more.

There are certain parameters that can be configured for individual controllers. You can customize the light bar color, the touchpad’s sensitivity and even fine-tune the rumble motors.

DS4 Tool may sometimes have problems detecting your devices, in which case you will need to restart your computer and/or reinstall the drivers. While restarting your PC should solve the issue, it doesn’t always do the job.

It is worth noting that, since this utility has not been updated for some time, it is not guaranteed to work on Windows 10. Even we were not able to connect our DS4 controller, though other users have had better luck.

This application is a good option for users who want to play games on a PC with a DualShock controller and are running an older version of Windows. If you have Windows 10, however, you may have to try an alternative like DS4Windows.
