mksmtool is yet another application designed to help advanced users work with PS2 resource files. Although still experimental, it might provide the much-needed spark for further development for other savvy users. It can also be used to extract various sound files from AFS archives, proprietary to games on the PS2 platform.

Right, so the developer clearly states that before using this program to unpack anything, you'll have to join the existing PS2 archives on a video game disc in one single GAMEDATA item which can then be processed by this program.

As far as I am concerned, doing this will prove more difficult if you're only at the beginning of this journey. The experimental status does not do you any favors, either. What is worth keeping in mind is that you can easily gain access to audio files, which might prove useful if you need them for yourself or other projects.

Another thing to keep in mind in this particular situation is that the program runs only in the Windows Terminal. This means you'll have to become acquainted with the use of this Windows app. It is quite clear that this program was not designed for the average user to enjoy.
