X-BookmarkBridge

With the abundance and diversity of websites available on the Internet, it's close to impossible not to have a selection of preferred ones you frequently visit. What's more, these probably sit quietly inside a bookmarks manager, waiting to be accessed. Targeting them is X-BookmarkBridge in order to give you the possibility to transfer saved ones between web browsers you use.

Since this is the portable version of the homonimous application, no installation is required. This comes in handy if you want to save bookmarks to another computer, while system registries remain intact, without affecting your PC's health and integrity.

All features are stored in a simple interface, split into two panels that indicate where saved websites come from and where they end up when the process is done. Needless to say that you are free to add and remove target browsers as you see fit. On or more sources can be selected and transferred to at least one destination.

It all seems fun and games until it's time to hit the “Merge” button. This is because the application stopped receiving updates for some time, thus losing grip on web browsers it supports. As Mozilla Firefox and Opera released new builds, Internet Explorer is the only one left that doesn't have compatibility issues. These are the only web browsers you can target, with Google Chrome being mysteriously left out of the game.

This results in a catastrophic blow to functionality, pushing it into free-fall. You need at least two web browsers for the app to successfully merge bookmarks, but since there's only one compatible browser left, practicality is highly questionable.

Bottom line is that X-BookmarkBridge comes equipped with good intentions, and an intuitive design that makes the overall process smooth. However, it wasn't able to keep up the pace with the constantly evolving technology and got lost along the way. The only hope is for future updates to solve current issues, but until then it's best you look for alternatives.
