More and more devices can now connect to the Internet, but the PC is still the main way, offering the largest variety of possibilities. Needless to say that you need a web browser to take a ride on the information superhighway, and in case you’re looking for a new one to try out, you might want to give MicroBrowser a shot.
As the name suggests, the application tries to keep things simple. However, it takes it a bit too far, with the interface that might not appeal to everyone. What’s more, the default location is actually the drive Windows is installed on, which can leave you scratching your head for a while.
Don’t worry, MicroBrowser can take you online as well. There’s an upper toolbar fitted with a URL field where you need to punch in the address, along with navigation buttons to go back, forth, refresh, or stop the connection. In case your Internet is slow, there’s a turbo charge feature that attempts to enhance navigation.
If you want to browse on more pages at a time, then you need to launch multiple instances of the application, because tab support is not implemented. Resource consumption is decent, and with a good connection, pages can load almost instantly.
However, there are too many features that got left behind in the development process. For instance, the application isn’t quite useful on the long run, since you can’t save any bookmarks, and neither can you revisit past items through a history tracker. To make matters worse, you might want to stay away from multimedia content, because it can’t properly load every page on the web, and it most cases results in a crash.
All things considered, we can safely state that MicroBrowser is not quite the alternative you’re hoping to find. The one advantage is resource consumption, since it doesn’t use nearly as much as others, but the lack of many features that have become a necessity, as well as poor web page compatibility, make overall practicality rather questionable.
